In a deeply unfortunate incident, eight labourers lost their lives after a truck overturned in Andhra Pradesh’s Annamayya district. The accident occurred late at night, when the vehicle was reportedly navigating a hilly stretch of road. According to early reports, the truck was carrying labourers who had just completed their day’s work and were on their way back home.
The vehicle lost control and flipped over, crushing several passengers under its weight. Locals rushed to the scene and alerted the police and emergency services. Sadly, by the time help arrived, eight people were already dead. A few others sustained serious injuries and were immediately taken to a nearby government hospital.
Authorities have started a formal investigation into the cause of the accident. While overloading and poor road conditions are suspected, officials say a full report will follow after examining the truck and speaking with the survivors.
This tragic event has once again highlighted the often-ignored safety concerns faced by daily-wage labourers who travel in unsafe conditions due to a lack of proper transport arrangements. Many labourers rely on goods vehicles for commuting, especially in rural and semi-rural parts of the country, where affordable and secure public transport is still limited.
Local leaders and social organisations have expressed condolences and are urging the government to ensure support for the families of the deceased. Compensation announcements are expected soon, but for the affected families, no amount can truly make up for the loss.
