Rajasthani Shopkeeper Attacked by MNS Workers Over WhatsApp Status in Maharashtra

A Rajasthani shopkeeper in Maharashtra was allegedly assaulted by members of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) after they took offense to a WhatsApp status he had posted. The incident, which took place in a suburban area, has sparked criticism over rising intolerance and political vigilantism.

According to reports, the shopkeeper had shared a WhatsApp status that was interpreted by local MNS workers as being disrespectful to Maharashtra or its people. The group reportedly confronted him at his shop, demanded an explanation, and later physically assaulted him. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, drawing both condemnation and concern.

Eyewitnesses say the attack seemed planned, as several MNS workers arrived together. The shopkeeper, originally from Rajasthan, has lived and worked in the area for several years without previous incident. He has now filed a police complaint, and an investigation is underway.

This is not the first time MNS workers have targeted non-Marathi individuals or businesses over language or perceived disrespect. The party has a history of aggressive responses to anything they feel undermines regional identity, but critics say violence should never be the answer.

The police have assured action and said they are reviewing the CCTV footage. Meanwhile, civil rights groups have called for stronger protection of migrant workers and small business owners across Maharashtra.
