Nitish Kumar Promises 125 Units of Free Electricity Ahead of Bihar Elections 2025

As Bihar gears up for the 2025 Assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has made a significant announcement — starting August, households will receive up to 125 units of electricity free every month. The move is seen as part of the JD(U) government’s effort to ease the financial burden on lower and middle-income families while boosting its appeal ahead of the polls.

Nitish Kumar made the announcement during a public meeting, highlighting the state’s progress in power supply and infrastructure over the years. He said the initiative is meant to support families struggling with rising costs and ensure that basic energy needs don’t become a financial burden.

According to government sources, the scheme will be rolled out in both urban and rural areas. Those consuming up to 125 units will not have to pay any charges, while others will be billed only for units beyond the free limit.

While supporters have praised the announcement as a much-needed relief for thousands of families, critics have called it a “poll gimmick,” suggesting it may strain the state’s budget in the long run.

That said, electricity supply in Bihar has improved significantly in the last decade, and schemes like this could further push the government’s “Bijli Har Ghar” agenda.

For now, people across the state are welcoming the news, hoping that the promise will be implemented on time and without technical hurdles.
