How QR Ticketing and a Woman Pilot Made Bengaluru Metro History

Bengaluru’s metro network just got bigger. Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the Yellow Line of the Namma Metro, connecting R.V. Road to Bommasandra. This new stretch is expected to ease traffic in the city’s busy southern and southeastern areas while improving daily commutes for thousands.

The launch was marked by several special touches. A woman pilot drove the inaugural train, highlighting the metro’s push for inclusivity. The first ride also welcomed schoolchildren onboard, making it a memorable moment for young commuters.

One of the biggest upgrades on the Yellow Line is the introduction of QR-code ticketing, allowing passengers to skip long queues and simply scan their way through the gates. Officials say this system will make boarding faster and more convenient, especially during rush hours.

The route covers several important stations, linking key residential and industrial hubs. Daily commuters, office-goers, and students are expected to benefit the most from this addition. Authorities hope that the new line will not only reduce road congestion but also encourage more people to shift from private vehicles to public transport.

With Bengaluru’s traffic challenges growing each year, the Yellow Line is a much-needed step toward better connectivity. More metro expansions are in the pipeline, which could make the city’s transport network faster and more sustainable in the coming years.
