Congress Asks President Murmu to Visit Odisha Student After Self-Immolation Tragedy

The recent self-immolation attempt by a BEd student in Odisha has sparked serious conversations across the country. As the young woman continues to fight for her life, the Congress party has made a heartfelt appeal to President Droupadi Murmu, urging her to visit the student and acknowledge her distress.

The incident reportedly stems from the student’s long-standing grievances related to the Odisha School Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET). She had raised concerns over irregularities and lack of response from the authorities. Frustrated and unheard, she set herself on fire outside the Block Education Office in Balasore. Her condition remains critical.

Congress spokespersons have emphasized that President Murmu, being from Odisha herself and holding the highest constitutional office in the country, has a moral responsibility to at least express concern. They say such a gesture could bring some comfort to the student and her family, and send a message of empathy to others who feel neglected by the system.

Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has promised a full investigation and strict action against those responsible. But the larger question remains—why did it have to reach this point? Could timely intervention have prevented such a tragedy?

This case is not just about one student. It’s a reflection of how delays, negligence, and lack of communication can deeply affect young lives. As citizens and leaders discuss what happens next, one thing is clear—more attention needs to be paid to the voices of our youth before it’s too late.
