Notification Bell

South Florida Commuters Face Delays After I-95 Golden Glades Fatal Accident

A fatal crash on Interstate 95 northbound at the Golden Glades Interchange in South Florida caused significant traffic delays on Friday morning, leaving drivers stuck in miles-long backups.

The incident, which occurred during the early commute hours, involved multiple vehicles. Authorities confirmed at least one person died in the collision. Several lanes of I-95 northbound were blocked for an extended period as emergency crews worked at the scene.

Florida Highway Patrol officers responded quickly, along with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units. Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending notification of family members. It remains unclear how the crash happened, and investigators are reviewing dashcam footage and speaking with witnesses.

Traffic in the area came to a near standstill, with delays stretching far beyond the Golden Glades. Drivers were urged to take alternate routes, including the Florida Turnpike or U.S. 441, to avoid the congestion. Commuters reported travel times more than doubling during the closure.

By late morning, some lanes were reopened, but residual delays continued into the early afternoon. Crews also worked to clear debris from the highway to restore normal traffic flow.

The Golden Glades Interchange is one of South Florida’s busiest highway connections, linking I-95, Florida’s Turnpike, the Palmetto Expressway, and U.S. 441 — making any disruption here a major traffic event.

Authorities have reminded drivers to remain alert and cautious on the road, especially during peak hours, to help prevent similar tragedies.
