Air India Pilot Allegedly Shut Off Engine Fuel Supply Mid-Flight, Report Says

A recent investigation report has raised serious concerns about a mid-air incident involving an Air India flight, where the captain is alleged to have manually cut off fuel supply to one of the plane’s engines. The incident, which occurred earlier this year, is now being reviewed by aviation authorities for possible safety violations.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the incident took place during a routine flight when one of the engines suddenly lost power. Initial suspicions pointed toward a technical failure, but a detailed probe reportedly suggests that the pilot may have intentionally shut off the fuel supply, either as part of a procedure or due to misjudgment.

Fortunately, the aircraft landed safely, and no injuries were reported among passengers or crew. However, this revelation has triggered questions about cockpit decisions, crew training, and communication during emergencies.

Experts say that while engine failures are rare, every action taken in the cockpit is recorded and monitored. “Manually cutting fuel to an engine is a serious action and should only be done in specific, clearly defined situations,” said an aviation safety analyst.

Air India has not yet issued a detailed statement on the matter but has confirmed that the pilot involved has been grounded pending further inquiry. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is also looking into the case and may take disciplinary action if the report’s findings are confirmed.

This case adds to growing scrutiny around aviation safety and operational standards in India’s expanding airline sector.
